Important Notes Before Migrating

  • Instead of deleting your Blogger after migration, it’s better to make it private just in-case if WordPress is not you. (Zero chances)
  • The most common problem in migrating from Blogger to WordPress is the WordPress’ permalinks structure. However, we have a solution for that too.
  • We are only going to import posts, categories, comments & images to your WordPress, not pages. You have to manually move your pages.

Blogger To WordPress

To import your Blogger data to your new self-hosted WordPress site, you need to navigate to Import option under the Tools menu in your WordPress’s dashboard. Click on Blogger. It will ask you to install the Blogger Importer plugin to your site. Once install it, activate and run the plugin.

Blogger ImporterIt will take you to a screen which will ask you to authorize WordPress to access your Google account. After authorizing, you will see a list of your Blogger blogs. Just select that blog you wish to import and it’ll import it within a few seconds.

[alert style=”yellow”]UPDATE: WordPress’ Blogger Importer plugin now allows you to import images as well, so you can skip the next step if you want.[/alert]

Permalinks Redirection

WordPress’ permalinks are customizable and are different from Blogger’s year/month/post-name.html format. You have just imported all your old Blogger posts to WordPress with a new permalinks structure, so we will change the your WordPress’s permalinks structure to Blogger style structure.

Navigate to Permalinks option under the Settings menu in your WordPress’s dashboard. Choose Custom Structure settings and add following code to the Custom Structure box:

/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%.html

That’s it! Now, you can move your domain to your WordPress or you can start to customize your WordPress if you have already moved your domain.
